Our Story

About this site: This is a sample website built for demonstration only, as a design and Shopify build proposal. Ghurza Atelier is a fictional brand, product photos are free stock images, and no orders are fulfilled.

Every stitch is a story

Ghurza (غُرزة) means stitch in Arabic. We make contemporary clothing carried by one of the oldest living arts of Palestine: tatreez, hand cross-stitch embroidery passed from mother to daughter for generations.

For centuries a woman's thobe told you where she was from. Each village had its own motifs, colours and patterns — a language written in thread. We work to keep that language spoken, by putting it on clothes you can wear every day.

Made by hand, paid fairly

Every embroidered panel is stitched by hand by women artisans working from home, on their own schedule. Artisans set the price of their own work, and are paid when the panel is finished — not when the garment sells. A single thobe chest panel can take up to 40 hours.

Small batches, no waste

We produce in small runs and restock what you love. Off-cuts become scarves, belts and pouches.

The Bayara Collection

Our new collection is named for the bayara — the orange groves of the coast. Its colours come from blossom, earth and leaf: terracotta, ecru and deep grove green.
