Every Ghurza pattern comes as a chart: a grid where each square stands for one cross-stitch. Learn to read it and every motif opens up to you.
1. One square = one stitch
Each square on the chart is one cross-stitch on your fabric, worked over one square of Aida (or two threads of evenweave). An empty square means leave the fabric bare.
2. Colour and symbol
Each colour has a matching symbol, so you can follow the chart in black and white too. The thread list tells you which DMC colour number to buy for each.
3. Find the centre
Small arrows on the edges of the chart point to its centre. Fold your fabric in quarters to find its centre, and begin stitching from there so the motif sits exactly where you want it.
Tips for a neat finish
- Work one colour at a time across a row.
- Keep every top stitch crossing in the same direction.
- Mark off sections of the chart with a pencil as you go.
